Health Care or Shutdown? The GOP is Choosing Shutdown.
Make calls with MoveOn and Working Families Power to urge the Senate to fight for our health care
Trump and Republicans have spent the entire year slashing health care for millions of working families, all so they could pass even more tax cuts for their billionaire friends.
It’s about to get even worse.
With a government funding deadline just a few days away, Trump just abruptly called off a planned meeting with Congressional Democrats, risking the first shutdown of the federal government since his first term as president.
Trump and Republicans would rather sit by and let the entire government shut down instead of ensuring that working families get the healthcare they need. They are refusing to negotiate with Democrats to reverse the deadly Medicaid funding cuts and extend the ACA tax credits which ensure affordable insurance premiums for millions of working people. With only one week to go until the deadline, we need to make sure all of our elected leaders—Democrats and Republicans alike—hear from their own constituents.
For the past nine months, Trump and congressional Republicans have relentlessly pushed through legislation to take away healthcare for millions of Americans.
They’ve taken corruption to new heights and enriched themselves through all kinds of schemes—all while working people have seen prices and healthcare costs go up and up.
They’ve shown over and over that they only care about their billionaire donors, not the working people they claim to represent. But we’ve shown up in numbers again and again. And we aren’t backing down without a fight.
As we approach the end-of-month government funding deadline, Republicans are making it clear that they would rather shut everything down than protect Medicaid or keep basic measures in place to stop health care costs from exploding.
Republican cuts have already caused a crisis for working families, and the continuing resolution they want to pass would only ensure it gets worse.
