It’s time for Trump and Republicans to negotiate a deal to lower healthcare costs and fund our government

In just two days, millions of working families will feel the disastrous consequences of Trump’s healthcare cuts and the government shutdown.

With insurance premiums on the Affordable Care Act marketplace skyrocketing and the halting of SNAP benefits, far too many of our friends and neighbors will find themselves needing to choose between life-saving medical care and food.

Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. They can end this at any time by passing a funding bill that lowers healthcare costs and brings federal employees back to work.

But we refuse to sit around and wait for the day they develop some compassion for their own constituents. We’re strategizing, and we’re fighting back.

Tonight, we’re hosting a mass call with coalition partners to share updates on the shutdown fight and help plug you into our work to lower healthcare costs and reopen the government.

The federal government has remained shut down for nearly a month, with government workers going without pay, because Trump and congressional Republicans are refusing to extend premium tax credits for people who use the ACA.

And on November 1, when open enrollment on the healthcare marketplace begins, an estimated 22 million people will watch their healthcare premiums double and 4.2 million will lose healthcare because they can no longer afford it. At the same time, more than 40 million people will be unable to afford food when SNAP benefits are halted because of the government shutdown.

It’s time for Donald Trump and congressional Republicans to negotiate a deal to lower healthcare costs and fund our government. The American people cannot wait any longer.
