Fight Back Against Trump’s Abductions
Trump’s growing abuse of power is accelerating every day
In America, the government should not be able to grab people off the streets, skip the courtroom, and send them straight to a foreign prison. But that’s exactly what’s happening in Trump’s America.
Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a father and union worker, was abducted from his Maryland home and illegally deported to a mega-prison in El Salvador last month.
The Trump administration admitted they made a mistake abducting Kilmar, but instead of working to facilitate his return, Trump refused to budge.
Even after a unanimous 9-0 ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court ordering his return, and subsequent appeals court rulings, the Trump administration refuses to comply. The administration went as far as saying on Friday that Abrego Garcia “is never coming back.”
Trump isn’t just doubling down on this case, he has already signaled that he’s considering sending U.S. citizens to prison in El Salvador.
Trump’s defiance of a Supreme Court order is a direct challenge to our constitutional system of checks and balances. As for what that means to you and me… When a president can ignore the highest court in the land, none of our rights are secure.
If they can abduct and imprison someone without due process, evidence, or a trial, they can do it to anyone.
President Trump’s growing abuse of power has accelerated every day since his second inauguration. So what do we do about it?
We speak up and we get involved because our communities, our constitutional rights, and the future of our country demand that we answer Trump’s abuses with powerful resistance.
As U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) said last week after travelling down to El Salvador to confirm Kilmar’s safety as he demanded his return, "This is not a case about just one man whose constitutional rights are being ignored and disrespected, because when you trample on the constitutional rights of one man—as the courts have all said is happening in this case—you threaten the constitutional rights of every American."
MoveOn members across the country are taking action to demand Republicans speak out against Trump's power abuses and put an end to these cruel violations of basic civil rights. Here's how you can join with us:

Every person who raises their voice makes it harder for Trump to push forward his agenda and harder for Republicans in Congress to ignore Trump’s blatant abuse of power. Republicans have a responsibility to make sure that the Trump administration respects the rule of law, obeys the courts, and ends the abductions.
It’s time to remind Republicans—and the world—that Trump is not above the law.

I saw a video of regular folks making a human chain to protect an immigrant dad and his son from ICE. The way forward is going to mean doing some stuff we've maybe never done before: make unlikely alliances to fight authority that's gone off the rails. It's time to be brave, to take risks.
Jesus died for our sins.
Now, we ALL suffer from Trump's whims.
We must find ways to STOP HIM. Put the above couplet on a postcard and send it to your Congressperson and the Senate Majority Leader. Rally your friends. Rally your community. Resist!
